Jio Platforms IPO May Open October 21, Targeting $3.8 Billion in What Could Be India’s Biggest Listing
India could be weeks away from witnessing its biggest-ever initial public offering as Jio Platforms moves closer to its long-awaited stock market debut.
Jio Platforms is reportedly planning to open its IPO on October 21, 2026, with the company seeking to raise approximately $3.8 billion from investors, according to people familiar with the plans cited by Reuters.
The shares are expected to list on Indian stock exchanges on October 28, although the timetable has not yet been formally confirmed by the company and could still change depending on market conditions.
If the reported issue size is achieved, the Jio Platforms IPO would become the largest IPO in Indian stock market history, surpassing previous major public offerings.
The development is particularly significant because Jio has evolved far beyond being only a telecom business. Its operations now span mobile connectivity, 5G, home broadband, cloud services, artificial intelligence and enterprise technology.
Is the October 21 Jio IPO date confirmed?
Not yet.
This is an important distinction for investors.
Reuters reported on October 5 that two sources familiar with the matter said Jio Platforms plans to launch the IPO on October 21 and expects its shares to list on October 28.
However, the sources were not authorised to speak publicly, and Reliance had not responded to Reuters’ request for comment at the time of publication.
Other reporting has pointed to a similar timeline. Moneycontrol says the company is targeting an October 21–23 IPO window, with the anchor book potentially opening on October 19 and listing targeted for October 28, subject to market conditions.
Therefore, October 21 should currently be treated as the reported target opening date, rather than a final officially announced IPO date.
Investors should wait for the final Red Herring Prospectus and official exchange announcements for confirmed dates, price band, lot size and subscription details.
Jio could raise around $3.8 billion
The proposed IPO is expected to raise approximately $3.8 billion, or roughly ₹36,000 crore at current exchange rates, although the final rupee amount will depend on the issue structure and applicable exchange rate.
Reuters reported that proceeds from the offering are expected to be used largely toward repaying debt associated with Jio’s telecommunications business.
Earlier regulatory filings indicated that Jio planned to issue up to 27 crore fresh equity shares, representing approximately 2.9% of its post-issue equity base.
The final offer structure should become clearer when the company files its final IPO documents.
Jio IPO could become India’s largest-ever listing
A $3.8 billion issue would put Jio ahead of India’s previous record IPOs.
Hyundai Motor India’s 2024 listing raised approximately $2.9 billion, while the National Stock Exchange of India made its market debut last month through an approximately $2.3 billion IPO, according to Reuters.
That means Jio’s planned offering could establish a new benchmark for India’s IPO market.
The timing is also significant because Indian primary markets are experiencing strong activity.
Nearly 250 companies are reportedly in the IPO pipeline, collectively seeking to raise about ₹4.65 trillion, or roughly $48 billion, according to PRIME Database figures cited by Reuters.
SEBI has already cleared the proposed Jio IPO
Although the precise launch date remains unofficial, the IPO itself has progressed significantly through the regulatory process.
India’s market regulator SEBI issued its final observations on Jio Platforms’ IPO proposal on August 28, after the company had filed its draft IPO papers in June.
Reliance Industries has also publicly described Jio’s IPO as imminent.
Mukesh Ambani told shareholders that Jio Platforms’ board had approved the Draft Red Herring Prospectus and that the proposed listing was intended to unlock value for Reliance shareholders while providing investors an opportunity to participate in Jio’s future growth.
So the uncertainty is primarily around the final timetable and pricing rather than whether Reliance intends to pursue the listing.
What could Jio Platforms be worth?
Separate reports suggest investors are closely watching Jio’s valuation.
PTI reported that the company could seek an enterprise valuation of approximately $143 billion to $146 billion, equivalent to at least ₹12 lakh crore, based on feedback following overseas investor roadshows.
That figure should not be confused with the IPO size.
The $3.8 billion figure refers to the amount reportedly targeted through the public offering, while the much larger $143–146 billion figure refers to a reported potential enterprise valuation.
The final valuation will ultimately depend on the price band and offer structure disclosed in the official IPO documents.
Jio has already held international investor roadshows
Ahead of the proposed IPO, Jio has reportedly conducted roadshows across major international financial centres.
PTI reported that overseas roadshows were held in locations including the United States, United Kingdom, Dubai, Hong Kong and Singapore, with Akash Ambani and Isha Ambani participating in the process.
The company is also expected to conduct further investor engagement in India as it moves closer to the public offering.
Strong institutional interest would be particularly important given the scale of the proposed issue.
Jio is much more than a mobile network
One reason the IPO is attracting significant attention is the breadth of Jio Platforms’ businesses.
Its telecom operation has built one of India’s largest subscriber bases, while the wider digital business has expanded into:
- 5G connectivity and mobile services
- Home broadband
- Enterprise networking
- Cloud infrastructure
- Artificial intelligence
- Digital platforms
- International technology services
Moneycontrol reported that Jio is increasingly positioning itself as a broader digital-services company rather than simply a connectivity provider.
The company sees mobility, home broadband, enterprise services and international technology services as important growth engines.
Jio’s financial performance before the IPO
Jio is entering the public markets with a substantial revenue and profit base.
According to financial figures published by Reliance, Jio Platforms generated ₹1,46,885 crore in revenue during FY2025-26, representing growth of about 14.6% year over year.
EBITDA reached ₹76,255 crore, rising 18.8%, while profit after tax crossed ₹30,000 crore for the first time, reaching approximately ₹30,053 crore.
These numbers will be important for investors assessing Jio’s valuation and long-term earnings potential.
5G could remain a major growth driver
Jio has invested heavily in building its 5G infrastructure.
PTI reported that the company had approximately 268.5 million 5G customers as of June 2026 and described its network as the largest standalone 5G network outside China.
But connectivity is only part of the company’s next phase.
As much of the heavy network investment cycle matures, attention is increasingly shifting toward monetising that infrastructure through enterprise technology, broadband, AI, cloud and digital services.
That transition could become an important part of the investment case presented to potential IPO buyers.
Global technology companies already own stakes in Jio
Jio Platforms already has several major international investors.
In 2020, Meta invested ₹43,574 crore for a 9.99% stake, while Google invested ₹33,737 crore for a 7.73% holding.
Other global investors have included Silver Lake, Vista Equity Partners, General Atlantic, KKR, Mubadala, Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, TPG, L Catterton, Intel Capital and Qualcomm Ventures.
Reliance Industries reportedly continues to own approximately 66.4% of Jio Platforms.
What investors should watch next
The next major milestone will be the filing of Jio’s final offer documents.
Reports indicate this could happen during the week beginning October 12. Once those documents become available, investors should get much clearer information about the price band, issue structure, subscription dates, anchor investor allocation and other key terms.
Until then, investors should be cautious about treating unofficial price bands, grey-market premiums or social-media claims as confirmed information.
The currently reported timeline points toward an October 21 opening and October 28 listing, but those dates remain subject to official confirmation.
What is already clear is that Jio’s public listing has the potential to become one of the most closely watched events in the history of India’s capital markets.
