Google Gemini Call for Me Lets AI Make Phone Calls for You: How the New Pixel 11 Feature Works
Google is testing a new Gemini feature that can make real phone calls on a user’s behalf.
Called “Call for Me,” the feature allows Gemini to contact businesses, speak with staff, navigate automated phone menus and wait on hold. Users can also follow the conversation through a live transcript and take control of the call when needed.
Google started rolling out the early preview on September 24, 2026. For now, access remains limited to eligible Pixel 11 users in the United States.
The feature marks another step in Google’s effort to turn Gemini from a chatbot into an AI assistant that can complete real-world tasks.
What Is Google Gemini Call for Me?
Google Gemini Call for Me is an AI-powered calling feature designed to handle everyday phone conversations.
Instead of searching for a business number and making the call yourself, you can tell Gemini what you need.
For example, you could ask Gemini to call a restaurant and reserve a table. It could also contact a shop to check whether an item is available.
Google lists several supported tasks. Gemini can ask about business hours, check product availability, request service quotes and manage appointments or reservations.
The assistant can also deal with two frustrating parts of business calls: automated menus and hold times.
How Does Gemini Call for Me Work?
The process starts inside the Gemini mobile app.
A user gives Gemini a clear instruction about the call. Google recommends including useful details such as preferred dates, times and alternative options.
For example, a user could ask:
“Call this restaurant and book a table for two at 7 PM tomorrow.”
Gemini then prepares a summary before making the call.
The user can review the business phone number and the information Gemini plans to share. Nothing starts until the user approves the task by tapping Call for me.
Gemini then places the call using the phone’s mobile network and the user’s own number.
Standard carrier charges may therefore apply.
Gemini Identifies Itself as AI
Google has added a disclosure at the beginning of calls.
Gemini must tell the person answering that they are speaking with a Google AI assistant. It also states that the call is on a recorded line and identifies the person it represents.
Google’s Agentic Calling terms say users cannot disable or hide this AI disclosure.
That means a restaurant employee or shop worker should know that an AI assistant, rather than the customer directly, is speaking with them.
This is an important part of the system because businesses do not have to guess whether they are talking to a human.
You Can Watch the Call Through a Live Transcript
Call for Me does not completely remove the user from the conversation.
Google provides a live transcript while Gemini speaks with the business. This lets the user follow what is happening without handling the conversation directly.
If something goes wrong or the discussion needs human input, the user can take over.
Google says the user can enter the conversation at any point.
This approach gives Gemini control over routine parts of the call while keeping the user involved when necessary.
Gemini Can Wait on Hold for You
Waiting on hold is one of the tasks Google wants the feature to handle.
Imagine calling a service center where an automated message says the next representative will be available in 15 minutes.
Call for Me can stay on the line instead.
It can also work through automated phone menus before speaking with a person.
This builds on phone-assistance features Google has developed for Pixel devices over the years.
Pixel phones already offer tools such as Hold for Me and Direct My Call. Call for Me takes the idea further because Gemini can now conduct the actual conversation.
What Can Gemini Call a Business About?
Google currently positions the feature around routine personal tasks.
A user could ask Gemini to:
- check whether a product is in stock;
- ask a business about its opening hours;
- request a service quote;
- book a restaurant reservation;
- confirm an existing booking;
- change an appointment;
- place an item on hold;
- navigate a business phone menu;
- wait on hold for an employee.
Google’s examples include contacting a restaurant, dry cleaner and other local businesses.
This makes Call for Me different from simply asking Gemini to search the web.
The AI is not only finding information. It can contact another person to obtain information or complete an approved task.
Who Can Use Gemini Call for Me?
Access is very limited at launch.
According to Google’s current eligibility requirements, a user must:
- be at least 18 years old;
- be located in the United States;
- use a Pixel 11 device with a U.S. SIM;
- have a Google AI subscription;
- use the Public Beta version of Phone by Google;
- have the latest Gemini mobile app;
- set the device language to English.
Google says it is gradually making the feature available to eligible users. Meeting these requirements does not necessarily mean it will appear immediately.
The early preview covers the Pixel 11 family, including the Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL and Pixel 11 Pro Fold, according to current reporting.
Is Gemini Call for Me Available in India?
No, not at this stage.
Google’s current eligibility page limits the feature to users in the United States with a U.S. SIM card.
The assistant can also only place calls to U.S. phone numbers for now.
That means Pixel owners in India cannot currently use the feature under Google’s published requirements.
Google has not announced a confirmed India release date.
Users should therefore be cautious about reports suggesting that Call for Me is already available globally.
Does Call for Me Work on Older Pixel Phones?
Google currently requires a Pixel 11 device.
The early preview is not generally available on older Pixel models under the current requirements.
Google could expand compatibility later, but no confirmed wider rollout schedule appears in its current support information.
The feature is still experimental, so Google may change its availability as testing continues.
Can Gemini Make Payments Over the Phone?
No.
Google places clear limits on what the AI can do during a call.
Gemini cannot complete financial transactions or make payments over the phone. It also cannot share sensitive financial information such as credit card details.
This restriction prevents the assistant from completing purchases that require payment details.
For example, Gemini could call a store and ask whether an item is available. It could potentially arrange for the item to be held if the business allows it.
However, it cannot give the store your credit card information and complete the purchase.
Gemini Cannot Make Emergency Calls
Call for Me also does not support emergency calls.
Users cannot ask Gemini to contact services such as 911 on their behalf. Google tells users to contact emergency services directly when they need urgent help.
The feature focuses on ordinary personal tasks rather than emergencies.
Google Also Restricts Sensitive Personal Information
Gemini cannot use the calling feature to relay certain sensitive information.
Google specifically restricts information such as passwords, Social Security numbers, financial details and health information.
The restrictions matter because an AI assistant making calls may need access to some personal information to complete a task.
Google lets users review what information Gemini plans to share before the call begins.
Businesses Cannot Use It for Telemarketing
Google does not allow Call for Me to become an automated sales-calling system.
The support documentation says users cannot use Gemini to make telemarketing calls.
Google’s additional terms also limit the feature to personal calls. Users cannot employ it to make calls on behalf of a business, government agency or law-enforcement organization.
Those restrictions separate the feature from AI-powered commercial call centers.
Are There Limits on How Many Calls Gemini Can Make?
Yes.
Google says Call for Me has daily calling limits.
Once a user reaches the limit, they must wait until the next day before asking Gemini to handle more calls.
Google’s public support page does not specify one universal number of calls in the information currently available.
That may give Google room to adjust limits while the feature remains experimental.
How Is Call for Me Different From Google Duplex?
The idea of Google AI talking to businesses is not completely new.
Google demonstrated Duplex in 2018. That technology became known for showing how Google Assistant could speak with businesses to perform tasks such as making restaurant reservations.
Call for Me revisits that idea in the Gemini era.
WIRED notes that the new feature arrives years after Google’s earlier Duplex effort. The difference is that Gemini now sits at the center of the experience, while users receive controls such as live transcription and the ability to take over.
Google is essentially applying its newer generative AI systems to a problem it has worked on for years.

Why Call for Me Matters for Gemini
The feature shows where consumer AI assistants may be heading.
Most people currently use AI to ask questions, summarize information, create content or find ideas.
Agent-style features go further.
Instead of only explaining how to make a reservation, an AI assistant can attempt to make that reservation.
Instead of showing the phone number of a store, it can call the store and ask whether an item is available.
That difference turns AI from an information tool into a system capable of taking limited actions in the real world.
Call for Me remains an experiment, so it is too early to know how reliably it will handle complicated conversations.
Still, the feature provides a clear example of Google’s direction for Gemini.
What Happens If Gemini Makes a Mistake?
Users should remember that Gemini remains an AI system.
Google warns in its Gemini support materials that AI can make mistakes. That becomes more important when an assistant moves from generating text to communicating with another person.
Call for Me therefore includes several points of user control.
The user reviews the task before the call starts. They can monitor the live transcript during the conversation and step in when necessary.
For important bookings, users should still check the final details.
A wrong date, time or product request could create a real-world problem rather than simply an incorrect chatbot answer.

Google Is Starting With a Small Rollout
Google describes Call for Me as an early experiment.
Rather than releasing it immediately to every Gemini user, the company is starting with a limited group of Pixel 11 owners in the United States.
That approach gives Google an opportunity to see how the system performs when speaking with real businesses.
It also gives businesses and users time to adapt to AI assistants participating in ordinary phone conversations.
Google has not provided a confirmed date for a global rollout.
For now, eligible U.S. Pixel 11 users are the first group testing what could become a much bigger part of Gemini: an AI assistant that does not just tell you what to do, but can make the call for you.
